It is a cosmopolitan city of bicycles and boats.
We took a canal boat ride around the city and the harbor in a boat just like this one below.
And here are just a few of the bicycles. Yes, that is a bike parking garage.
There are flood gates in strategic places around the city.
A hundred years ago Amsterdam was one of the largest ports in the world for mechants and their goods. Most of these buildings were warehouses for goods. Notice the huge hooks mounted at the top of the buildings. These were used to hoist the goods up and into the large windows. Now they are used to hoist furniture up to the upper floors because the stairways are so tight.
I found it interesting that no many how many photos people took, we often took pictures of the exact same places. You will notice this happen again as we go along.
