Day Two - Only 19 more to go

Awhile back I saw a Facebook post called "Build a chicken feeder on the cheep" then "Build a chicken feeder for free. Well, this weekend we "Built a Broody box for free". We already had ALL the materials.


The idea first came about when a cabinet fell off of the wall in our laundry room. So it's like the whole thing just fell out of the sky! The back and bottom of the cabinet were broken so "all we had to do" is just change a few things.

Add dividers for the compartments
with a long hallway between. And
add 1" X 2" wire to the side that
was broken. It's so handy that Fred
has a nail gun.

Add a feeder and waterer

Then add hatching eggs. These are
orpington eggs. Some of the chicks
 may be blue, some may be black,
and some may be splash - kinda
like calico on a cat.

Add a broody hen. This is one of our best brooders, a buff orpington. She has been a very willing partner in the enterprise.

The hardest part is to leave her alone
and let her do her job. Plan to come
over and see the babies in 19 more days.
